Championship Final - Tara retain the Junior title and complete the Championship double

Venue: TCG, Greenford
Date: Saturday 25 July 2009
Result: Tara 7-5 v 2-2 Murphys

Tara Junior's took the Junior Championship title for the second year running and also completed the Senior and Junior Championship double for 2009. On a day when Jesse Greene got a personnel tally of 5-4 Tara were good all over the field.

Tara got off to a great start and were up 3-3 at the mid point of the first half. The combination of Greene and Rosie Sutcliffe up front were just too hot to handle for the Fr Murphy's defence. Sutcliffe bagged Tara's first goal after a pass from Greene.

Tara's mid field were on top and were sending in quality ball to Tara's forwards. In defence Nollaig Barron was a tower house and was cleaning up everything. Greene followed by with 2-3 (0-1 free) and at this stage Tara were cruising.

Up front for Murphy's Sue Harding looked dangerous but Tara's defence pounced each time they were in possession. Fr Muphy's were held to 2 points in the first half, an Emma Taylor free and Sue Harding point. Tara captain was leading by example and she grabbed a point for her team.

Sutcliffe bagged another goal and this was a gem. She gathered the ball out around the 40 yard line, took off on a speedy solo run and struck a raspier to the bottom corner. Anna Gibson s could do nothing about this one. Greene netted once more before half time leaving the score 4-4 to 0-2 to Tara at the break.

The second half started as the first with Tara on top. Barron started as she finished the first half and Suzanna Gill beside here was in fine form also. Fr Murphy's were battling hard and Hannah Noone was doing everything in her power to get another score on the board for Murphy's.

However it was the Greene again who netted for Tara. In the middle of the field Hamilton and Collette Fahy were on top. Perhaps goal of the day was Greene Sutcliffe combination. Greene gathered the ball on the end line and sent a ball across the 21 right into the hand of Sutcliffe who buried the ball to the net. A top class goal by any standards.

At this stage it was in the bag for Tara but that did not stop Murphy's from pilling on the pressure and it finally paid off with a fantastic individual goal from Laura Kealy. A high ball in which she grabbed, turned and struck. Jacqui Thornton in the Tara goal could only look on. Murphy's netted again with a goal from Harding this time. Another 1-1 from Greene to finish her tally of 5-4 and the cup was winging its way back into Tara hands.

Following last years Championship win and the regrading of many of lasts years winning team it is a credit to the Tara management and back room team to have another team gathered together to compete and win at this level again.
