A draw was a good result for a totally changed Tara team who are defending their Junior League and Championship title from the 2008 season. A beautiful day in Ladywell was the setting against a Green Isle side who have some new faces for the 2009 season also. Tara's new look team started well and some great defending from the back line gave the girls confidence. A first half goal from Leah Horan put Tara on the score board. Green Isle's followed with a goal and 2 points from free's by Geri Goring.
The Tara backline defended extremely well against what was a constant barrage of pressure from Green Isle, with Michelle McClafferty causing most havoc and scoring 2 points from frees. Grace Hamilton tagged on a point for Tara. The new look Tara defense remained cool inspite of rising temperatures and resisted the constant challenge from Green Isle before the break. Leaving the half time score 1-1 to 1-2 to Green Isle at half time
Tara dominated the second half with most of the possession. Mid fielders Hamilton, Cath Dwyer and Sarah Gaughan worked tirelessly through out the second half. Tara came close on many occasions to rattling the net but at this early stage of the season accuracy was proving difficult. Karen Curtain-Landy finally broke the deadlock in the second half with a goal. Geri Goring and McClafferty each scored point for Green Isle. The final score was 1-5 to 2-2.
The new look Tara outfit refreshed from the Birmingham tournament responded well to pressures from a strong Green Isle team and gained great experience in very hot conditions. Sincere thanks to Green Isle who as always made the traveling team feel very welcome and provided post match refreshments
